Harmonia Instrumentalis
During the Middle Ages, – as described in the Magnus Liber organi from the École de Notre-Dame in Paris, during the 13th century – the musical instruments were considered as “vulgar”, not as noble as the voice, which was closer to the divine, and the harmonia mundi. However, instrumental practices were still very present in traditional and secular repertoires. In this program, we invite you to discover the beauty and richness of medieval instrumental music.
The program includes works by the last of troubadours Guillaume de Machaut (1300-1377), Cantigas de Santa Maria (13th century), Hildegard von Bingen (1097-1192), polyphonic music from the Franco-Cypriot codex MS Turin J.II.9 (15th century), and traditional dances from Cyprus.

Φύση, Λατρεία και Θείο (Nature, Worship and the Divine)
As part of the Festival of Sacred Music, the European medieval music ensemble Sibil•la Ensemble collaborates with distinguished composers and musicians from Greece and Cyprus. With a strong emphasis on the Divine, human passion, and the need for transcendence, a musical ritual emerges—uniting medieval and contemporary music on historical instruments. The performance draws inspiration from the relationship between Nature and the Divine, as reflected in medieval musical traditions of both the West and the East.
Works by Yannis Kyriakides, Angelos Mastrantonis, and Yiannis Panayiotou have been commissioned by the ensemble in collaboration with the Greek National Opera, while Aspasia Nasopoulou’s work has been specially adapted for the group.
